Business required a Friday meeting in the city of Boston. The group would be finishing up around 3pm in the afternoon and I could have flown back to Sacramento at that time. Being that it was a Friday, I decided to spend a couple more days in Boston and enjoy a location I hadn’t visited in years.
The Boston Hyatt Regency had a paid rate of $199.00 per night (before taxes) and I booked the hotel for the next 2 nights. I thought the rate was fair, and this would give Susan and I another stay towards our needed 25 stays required for Hyatt Diamond status.

I’ve qualified for Diamond Membership in the Hyatt Gold Passport program for a couple years now. Before that time, I had always struggled to meet the requirements of 25 stays or 50 nights with Hyatt. With work I could usually get around 10 to 15 stays during the year, which was enough for the Platinum Level, but getting to 25 stays was always more difficult. That is until Susan came on board.
In 2014 Hyatt did a fairly aggressive status challenge program, and we participated and qualified for Hyatt Diamond through the end of 2015. Once Susan started enjoying the upgrades, breakfasts, in room amenities and late checkouts she was hooked. Now when we travel together we try and find a Hyatt to stay at. Hyatt isn’t everywhere, but it’s in enough locations we have been able to come up with the 25 stays.
Upon leaving water taxi I walked through the Boston Harbor Marriott and took a taxi to the Hyatt Regency. The distance is just under a mile and a person could easily walk the distance. Upon reaching the Hyatt Regency Boston, you enter from the street though glass doors and into a sloped grand hall. The hall empties into the ground floor lobby with elevators. From there you go up to the 3rd floor for the check-in lobby.

The associate checked me in and upgraded me to corner room – 939, which I appreciated. From the lobby I took the elevators to the 9th floor. After exiting the 9th floor you then hook around left, past a very large open core space, and then on to the corner rooms. The entry is shared by 2 rooms 937 and 939.

Upon entering the room, and because of the corner room geometry, you proceed down a fairly long hall. The bathroom is on the right and the closet is on the left. The hall empties into the room itself. The room has a shape of a right triangle with the bed on the short-right leg against the common bath wall. Included is a love seat, coffee table, chairs, TV console, minibar, nightstands and changing bench. Everything was in good shape and the design style felt like city/east coast (if there is such a thing).

The bath room looked as if it had been updated recently. There was beautiful wooden free standing sink assembly that looked sharp. The shower was a bath combo unit that was ordinary. The water pressure was low flow and a bit of a disappointment.

The breakfast was severed in the hotel’s Avenue One restaurant on the 3rd floor – same as the main lobby. The restaurant sits to the right of the bar and the breakfast service is a buffet or order of the menu affaire. The food quality was good and typical for a standard hotel. The service was excellent and the restaurant staff made a point to accommodate the few requests I had. The professional service is noticeable and the manager of the restaurant should be commended.

While staying at the hotel I used the work out facilities and grabbed some pictures. The facilities are on the lower floors and it’s a takes some navigating to walk to them. They include a changing room, pretty large exercise space and full pool. It was quiet during my visit.

On my second evening at the hotel I ordered in-room dining (a hamburger) while I caught up on some work. On the majority of the interactions with the hotel staff I found the service to be very good. They made the extra effort to attend to your requests.

In Summary:
The Hyatt Regency Boston is great city hotel. The location is great, the facilities are good, the property is in good shape, and the hotel staff is very accommodating and professional. On top of all of this I thought the $199.00 per night rate was affordable by Boston standards. When traveling to a large city it is helpful to have a full service hotel to enhance your stay, especially for business. Having stayed at the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor and the Hyatt Regency Boston I’m looking forward to returning and trying the Hyatt Regency Cambridge to compare.
