The summer has been racing by and my level of travel has been a bit busier than even I care to do. Don’t take me wrong, I love to be going somewhere. But as a full time professional and family man (Susan and have a blended situation) it’s all a matter of balance. Having said that, somewhere over the Atlantic in June I was flying with Virgin Atlantic on a purchased J fare when I hit my Million Miller mark with Delta Airlines.
The dope on Delta’s Million Miler Levels
Delta’s Million Miller status is based on earned MQM count; and that includes qualifying partner airlines. So I happened to be traveling with a partner airline when the final mile was earned. I received an email a few weeks later with notification of the milestone. A few weeks after that I was on an award flight with Delta and the flight attendant made a point to thank me for my loyalty and achieving the Million Miler mark.
No, this didn’t happen on my Delta flight having achieved the Millionth Mile
I did receive this nice email
I almost felt guilty about my plans to stop pursuing elite status with the airline, and then I remembered it’s not me – it’s them. Why let my future plans ruin the achievement? I have been flying Diamond or Platinum status with Delta for over 10 years. I sat back and enjoyed the moment. I will also enjoy having lifetime silver status (for whatever that will be worth). I appreciated being the only Million Miler on that flight, and the recognition.
Delta rewards its customers at the Million Miler mark with the choice of a gift (in additional to the silver status). I selected mine and received it in the mail a week later.
I selected the only item I had qualified for
I had a choice of 4 categories of gifts
I wasn’t going to select 40,000 Delta miles
Warmer – but the Hartman looks very similar to my Briggs and Riley items
Not my style (or Susan’s for that matter)
Humm, I’ve never owned a TUMI item before
In Summery:
Even with the changes in the frequent flyer universe; I love the old school concept of being rewarded for long term loyalty. Color me shallow, but I like the fact I had been loyal with Delta for over 10 years, and I love being a Million Miler even more. Regardless of what the future holds in this hobby and with Delta, I’ll have the MM mark with Delta for the rest of my life.
